Katrina Kaif (born July 16, 1983) is a model and Bollywood actress. She has acted in Hindi,Telugu and Malayalam films.
Her mother is English and father a NRI originally from Kashmir. She was born in Hong Kong, grew up in Hawaii and London. She has seven sisters. She is currently dating Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan.
She was discovered at age 14 as a model for a jewellery campaign. When moving to India, she worked for photographer Atul Kasbekar and did commercials for Fevicol, Lakme cosmetics and Veet among others.
Katrina debuted in the film Boom, which featured her as a supermodel. She has done two Telugu movies - Malliswari(2004) and Allari Pidugu(2005). In 2005 she starred in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya opposite Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen and had a role in Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar. In 2006, she debuted in Malayalam Cinema through the Mammootty starrer Balram v/s Tharadas.

Background

Katrina was born and brought up in London to an NRI Father and a British Mother. Her father is originally from Kashmir. When she was doing modelling in London, she came to the notice of filmmaker Kaizad Gustad and snapped an important role in his film 'Boom' .With her gorgeous face and hourglass figure, Katrina was flooded with modelling assignments in Mumbai. However, filmmakers were hesitant to sign her because of her linguistic shortcomings.She was even signed for Vikram Bhatt's 'Saaya' but later dropped from the project due to her poor Hindi. But She prooved every Critic wrong with successes in 'Sarkar' & 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya'
